SPE award for Ticona modified blow moulding process

The Association of Plastics Engineers (SPE) has awarded first place in the Powertrain rank of its annual Automotive Awards, together with its Grand Award in the collective ranking Parts and Components, to a blow-moulded charge air pipe made of Ticona’s Fortron polyphenylene sulfide (PPS).

Acquainted with by VW in 2 liter diesel engines, the component was developed by Röchling Automotive in confining cooperation with the polymer producer.

“Combined process and product optimizations reduce the manufacturing costs for the charge air pipe by about 25% versus the same meeting made of aluminium,” explained Carsten Wörner, Ticona’s commercial principal Europe.
