Battle of the 'chick wines'

OK, it's not to the letter the title bout of the century.

But it does pit two heavyweights (quite shouldn't use the word "heavy") in the Canadian wine manufacture against each other as they go skirt to skirt for the palates of women everywhere.

It's a pitched battle being waged in wine shops with Vincor Canada (makers of some of Canada's most popularized wine brands in Niagara and the Okanagan) in one corner and Colio Belongings Wines (a formidable foe from Lake Erie North Shore) in the other corner.

Colio was first out of the passage last year with its Girls' Night Out series of wines launched at the LCBO for $13.

With pretty evening dress labels and an obvious pitch for innocent, career-driven women wine drinkers, it was an jiffy success.

That prompted Vincor (they will deny this, saying it was already in the works) to procure up with Strut -- "the wine with legs" series of VQA wines made from Niagara and sold at Wine Pain stores for $12.
