Ramps plus low water equal trailer repairs

And why is it that we can fork out all this money on new trees and new buildings when we can't maintain the boat ramps we already have?

I ripped the axle out of my trailer on the Lake Martha boat dip the previous weekend. The welder said he had four ripped axles from Lake Shipp alone during the Fourth, and he expects more from this coming weekend.

Why? Because boaters "power jam" their boats. That is, they're "driving" them up the trailer instead of cranking them up. This washes all the sand from the end of the rise, creating a dropoff that is unseen and unknown for boaters unconversant with with that ramp - especially during low water.

Why isn't a load of rocks dropped off at the end of these ramps to recompense? They won't wash out with power loaders, they would be cheap to install (at best dump them off the ramp with a dump truck and then hand spread them) and they would be much think twice than just extending the concrete ramp.
