Bearings company branches out

An 84-year-old corporation, Jamaica Bearings Co. Inc., was named the Family-Owned Business of the Year for 2009 by the U.S. Parsimonious Business Administration, Region II (which includes New York). The confer recognizes, among other things, sales, profits and potential for continued big-term growth.

The company, which distributes bearings and other products to the aerospace, authority, industrial, rail and export industries, began in 1925 and has been in the Negri relatives since 1934. Peter F. Negri, president and chief administrative, is the second-generation owner, having taken over from his confessor, Frank. His son Brian, who joined the company in 1999, is wickedness president of aerospace and government and is being groomed to succeed Peter.

At the nevertheless Peter Negri joined the business full time in 1971, annual sales were about $1.8 million and the concern employed 15 people at its former location in Jamaica, Queens. Today, sales retire just under $100 million and the company employs more than 135 people. In supplement to its New Hyde Park headquarters, to which it relocated in 1985, the followers has offices in Pennsylvania, Florida and California.
