Body of Oneida marine returns to the United States

According to the Conditional on of Defense. Jeremy Lasher, 27, of Oneida, was killed on Thursday, July 23, while supporting contest operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

Lasher was killed along side Cpl. Nicholas G. Xiarhos, 21, of Yarmouth Mooring, Massachusetts. They were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Sea Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, supporting Craftsman Enduring Freedom.

Lasher is the fourth local servicemen to be killed in liveliness this year alone, and the tenth serviceman from the Mohawk Valley to be killed in influence since 2003.

At a dignified transfer ceremony at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware Saturday afternoon, a Seagoing Corps carry team loaded a transfer case containing the remains of Spear Corporal Lasher into a transfer vehicle.
