For 2010, the Toyota Prius combination has been redesigned and is now in its third generation. Its Hybrid Synergy Drive system is 90 per cent newly developed, with 22 per cent more power over the sometime model but with a seven per cent improvement in fuel consumption. The above-mentioned 1.5-litre four-cylinder gasoline engine has been replaced with a 1.8-litre mechanism.

The new model also adds more rear-seat legroom, new styling, and several new features, including four driving modes, an readily obtainable solar-powered ventilation fan, wheel-mounted rule buttons that activate duplicate images on the instrument panel, and Toyota's first use of Sharp Parking Assist.

The Prius uses a 1.8-litre four-cylinder locomotive, combined with the Hybrid Synergy Drive hybrid system and nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery, and continuously mutable transmission (CVT).
