Rent-to-own seeing uptick

With lease-to-own, there are no credit checks, no long-term obligations and malleable payment options.

And with new consumer-protection laws in position and rent-to-own dealers lowering prices to bring in new dealing, those in the industry and customers like Valance say it's a viable alternative to purchasing household items and electronics on confidence in.

Thanks to the credit crunch, said Richard May, free affairs director with the Association of Progressive Rental Organizations, a inhabitant rent-to-own association, there is a new demographic of rent-to-own customers.

Families who forge up to $50,000 a year are now using rent-to-own as an option, he said.

"The trust crisis has given rent-to-own a new story to tell," May said in a late phone interview.
