Ed Crankshaft is ravaged by age

In a recondite story twist , Tom Batuik has jumped his "Crankshaft" side-splitting several years into the future, to a time when the central character of the rob - grumpy oldster Ed Crankshaft - is reduced to a vegetable-like testify, then wheeled out to watch a ballgame as his mind drifts back to a days when he used to do the same thing in his youth.

I'm hoping this time-gain thing -which Batuik has used to great effect in his other get naked, "Funky Winkerbean" - isn't unceasing. We like Ed crabby and crusty, not immobile and emotionless.

In incident, the writer's taking something of a leap of faith by imagining that we readers even have a yen for to see a central character laid low by the ravages of age. Do we want to see Snoopy being put to sleep? Blondie winsome out her dentures? Curtis middle-aged and stuck with the same strain of crappy job his dad has?  Beetle Bailey as an amputee after ultimately being sent overseas to fight in a war?
