With most cars, you unlock their doors with a key or, these days, you click a remote key fob. The big Benz, too, has a key fob, but it's a proximity key fob, which means that when you get near the car it senses the fob and lets you open the door. Again, not unusual. With the S550, it's taken a step further -- when you first touch the door handle (even touching it lightly), the old-fashioned upright door-lock buttons pop up. It's a nice touch, so to speak. Just a light glancing touch on the door handle and up she pops.
The S-class Mercedes is the top of the line in a company that many think of as already being at the top of the automotive heap -- a lot of this, of course, is driven by marketing and clever advertising, but Mercedes-Benz does have a long history and it has a lot of fans out there.
