Charlie Fisher says his first "true serious" farm accident happened when he was about 12. He was driving a bulldozer, pushing manure out of a barn on his relatives's Delaware Township dairy farm. "I was coasting to lay time shifting, I think that's part of the reason I got close to the lally column. You should always keep pilot of your machine, not free-wheel." He was twisted around, looking behind as he backed up, gripping the front rim of the fender to steady himself.

The lally column (a metal pipe giving shore up to the barn beams) mashed his hand against the fender. "It just about cut it half-way off," Mr. Fisher remembers. "You don't even see that coming. I solicitude recollections I had plenty of room."

He still has a "big scar" where he received "two or three layers of stitches." Luckily, his multiple flouted bones were reset and casted well, mending over the next couple of months.
