Fuel Cut Off Valve
Many at Marshall didn't see '69 launch; they had jobs to do
"A lot of us didn't get to as a matter of fact witness the
launches because we were busy making sure life actually
worked," said retired Marshall contriver Al Reisz, 70,
who monitored every Apollo/Saturn skiff from consoles at
Marshall.
"For (Apollo 11), I was watching the sensor readings
and looking at the readouts coming back on the (promote) S-2
stage and making sure all the flight parameters on the
thrust fuel flow were OK and the engines were not going
to cut off prematurely.
"I didn't even see the pitch. They had a
television in the room, but none of us with jobs to do could
watch. We couldn't take our eyes off those
readings."
The numbers came back in close real time down a special cable
that ran exclusively between Promontory Kennedy (now Cape
Canaveral) and Huntsville - sort of Dr. Wernher von
Braun's own Internet, Reisz said.
