Jamestown sewer system close to normal flows

From 3 to 5 million gallons of sewage is still effective through the main lift station in Jamestown, much of which is due to ground water infiltration, but the clean sewer situation is steadily improving. The problem now is that winter is unshakeable approaching.

City Engineer Reed Schwartzkopf said Friday rational flow through the main lift station at this time of year is about 2.5 million gallones, which means lees water is still a factor in the sanitary sewer system. However, with reductions in releases from the dams, the amount of swirl through the main lift station is also dropping.

“The last four days is the first time we’ve seen important drops,” he said. “Every day things are getting ameliorate. But, now we’re worried about how to get everything fixed and repaired by freeze up.”
