The Urban Water Treatment plant in South Africa have been having problems with their lime dosing pumps. Lime dosing is necessary for water treatment where a 10% lime slurry is acclimated to to stabilise the ph of the water.
Since the original plant was built, Urban have used two different types of electric motor driven diaphragm pump for adding the lime slurry to the ooze. In both cases the pumps’ performance was unsatisfactory due to a figure up of lime in low velocity areas. This also led to check valve assemblage problems and frequent pump failures.
The solution was to install a Verderflex VF40 peristaltic hose pump. With a Verderflex hose pump the only part of the pump that absolutely comes into contact with the lime slurry is the hose itself. No pathetic parts ever
