Panel weighs study on impact of cameras in courts

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - An counselling committee is considering whether to commission a study to try to gauge the impact of birth up Minnesota's trial courts to news cameras.

The panel was asked by the Minnesota Greatest Court earlier this year to design a pilot delineate to gauge the impact of expanded TV coverage cameras on victims and witnesses. Minnesota's widely known rules effectively ban cameras from nearly all trial court proceedings.

On Thursday, the admonitory committee heard from University of Minnesota professor Eugene Borgida (BOR'-gih-duh). He presented a prefatory proposal for how to conduct an 18-month study to enlarge the information the Supreme Court wants in a scientific way.

The board will decide later whether to approve the study.
