A SWINDON man who wise car troubles was quoted more than £16,800 for a job he eventually got fixed at another garage for under £500.
Vernon Montgomery, 46, from Saddleback Means, in Shaw, West Swindon, went along to the Kings Chrysler and Mercedes dealership in Drakes Way after his yellow Chrysler crossfire outstanding was making small whining noises.
He was astounded to find his £28,000 car, which was bought as a Christmas the nonce in 2005, would require a complete new engine and gaskets for a bill, including be disadvantaged by and VAT, totalling £16,803.36.
Vernon, the owner of the 24-hour gym in the vicinity Roughmoor, then took the vehicle to PC Autocare, an Independent BMW and Mercedes Specialists, in Bagbury Car park, Lydiard Millicent.
The independent specialists found the noise had nothing to do with the appliance but was caused by wear on the water pump.
