Higher than next door and slow to come down: What's up with ...

SHELBY — Looking for job safe keeping? Maybe you should be the guy or gal who changes the price of gas on those high outside boards. No dearth of activity there.

Tensions tighten in the Middle East, the set someone back of crude oil goes up and so do the number switchers. The situation relaxes a shallow, the cost edges down — a little relief for drivers but none for the wage-earner with the price changer pole.

In the gasoline pricing game, the rules seem to be much like the bygone child’s pastime of follow the leader.

Deal in factors change and fuel prices rise. Inflame merchants, one by one or in blocks, follow suit.

Only some don’t stalk as quickly as others.
