How To: Remove Handles From an Old Shower Fixture

A A square tool called a faucet handle puller or faucet handle extractor, which works like a corkscrew for wine stoppers, for the most part takes off stuck handles quickly. Saturating the square first with something that penetrates and eats through the corrosion is also a good idea. But it sounds as though you've tried those steps.

Before you give up, you might shortage to see whether a product called Liquid Wrench Super Penetrant can eat through the corrosion. Give it lots of time to work by tying or placing a small rag over the square and soaking that with the solvent. Then use the handle extractor again.

If the handle still doesn't budge, call a polished plumber. If the plumber can't extract the handle, discuss the least-messy way to proceed. That might be to cut off the faucet with a hacksaw. Or, if the faucets are on an imprisoned wall with drywall on the other side, it might be relatively easy to cut through the drywall and interval the entire faucet assembly by slicing through the supply tubes (while D to the shower is off) with a tube cutter.
