Is the Brady Campaign for the children?

CHILDREN & GUNS: A LETHAL COMBINATION (Brady used all capitals supposedly to create a screaming headline effect) immediately performs a “bait and switch” by lumping children (ages 0-14) with teenagers ages 15-17, plus adults up to age 24, contrary to the title of the report. The Federal Trade Commission has this to say of such methods:

“Its purpose is to switch consumers from buying the advertised merchandise, in order to sell something else, usually at a higher price or on a basis more advantageous to the advertiser.”

This definition is most apt. Brady uses the “advertised” specter of children being shot to sell gun control, which does indeed contain hidden costs. For example, states identified by Brady as having the most gun control also have higher violent crime and murder rates than states that Brady claims do not have enough gun control. Brady’s favorite states also have larger, more overbearing governments which negatively impact economic and personal freedom (remember the Declaration of Independence reference to the pursuit of happiness?).
