Steps parents can take now What you can do as a precaution in case a child disappears:

•Take photos of the child at least every six months — a head shot as well as a full-body photo.

•Obtain a classifiable set of fingerprints. That means the prints must be rolled or digitally scanned on a law-enforcement-approved card.

•Have a full-mouth X-ray.

•Collect DNA. According to Child Protection Education of America, here's how you can create your own DNA kit: Remove a hair, with the root still attached, and seal it in a freezer lock bag.
