HUNTINGTON Strand – OCRegister.com readers say they are split about Sunset Beach's future.
More than 100 people responded to a survey about whether Sunset Beach should join Huntington Beach, be annexed to Seal Margin or become its own city.
The poll was in response to an article about Sunset Shore residents giving up their preference to remain an unincorporated county atoll. They overwhelmingly voted this week to actively pursue joining their ungenerous, northern neighbor Seal Beach.
About 55 percent of figures responders said that Sunset Beach should join Seal Coast and about 30 percent said the community should go to Huntington Littoral. About 20 percent said Sunset Beach should become its own bishopric, according to the poll posted Thursday afternoon.
Sunset Seaside's decision to join Seal Beach was promoted by a county panel's express July 8 to name Huntington Beach, rather than the county, the more logical provider of civil services to Sunset Beach. The commission's decision could facilitate the way for Surf City to annex the 1,200-resident community, according to constitution law.
