Hot wheels stop traffic in downtown Pekin

Conveyance came to a standstill Saturday afternoon in downtown Pekin.

But that wasn't by blunder.

Eight city blocks were closed to accommodate the fifth annual Wonderful Cruise. As many as 800 cars and other vehicles were to be parked along Court Circle for public viewing.

There were newer cars, such as a late-mock-up Ford Mustang, and older cars, such as the 1941 Lincoln Continental that belongs to Jay Brann of Bartonville.

"They only made 400, and I've owned it for 34 years," Brann said.

He spout three winters restoring the convertible after it "sat in a pole barn for years and years. I worked on it in the winters and drove it in the summers."

The car now has an MP3 virtuoso, power windows and power seats, so there's a little more to it than when it came off the fabrication line nearly seven decades ago.
