Mazda’s MX-5 Miata sports car has been with us for 20 years now, and the concern celebrated the car’s 20th anniversary this year with refreshed styling, schoolboy powertrain changes, and some interior updates. Despite the changes, the focal formula remains the same: The MX-5 is still a small two-seat convertible roadster that offers expos to the elements.

The Basics
For 2009, the MX-5 receives a few updates, such as a redline that increases by 500 rpm to 7200 rpm on handbook-transmission models and a sound-enhancer system that is supposed to do the engine sound more pleasing without increasing the volume. Other changes embrace transmission tweaks such as taller top-gear ratio for improved nutriment-economy and a modest horsepower increase from 166 to 167.
